9:00 to 10:00 a.m.  What is CMS (Content Management Systems)?

 

Answer: Allowing a group of people to contribute to the News site (or any site) directly – without going through a program.

Learn: How to create a Web Site without having to consult an expert. Practical exercise abound.

10-noon  Social Media –What? So What?  Now What?

 

Answers:

What: *A quick overview of the current platforms available for social media.

So What: *A look at some of the ways that others are using these platforms to cover stories and to promote their coverage.

Now What: *A hands-on process as we forcus on Twitter and Facebook.

What kinds of things should I post?

How frequently should I post?

What are the tricks of writing the posts that will get the highest level of engagement?

What role should multimedia play in these posts?

How do I measure how successful I’ve been?

Practical exercise included.

Presenter: Bob Rose, Deputy Managing Editor, St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Rose oversees the newspaper’s digital efforts across online, mobile and social media platforms.  He has also been an editor in the paper’s sports, features, news, design and photo departments.  Rose is a mizzou grad who also has worked for Gannett in Knoxville, TN and Westchester County, NY
