Investigative Reporting Grants Available

Deadline for proposals is approaching: Monday, December 10, 2012, 5 p.m. Eastern time.

The Fund for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) seeks grant proposals for independent investigative reporting projects.

Special funding is available for investigations of poverty issues and economic inequities in the US.

Projects relating to government accountability, local or regional investigations, and applications from ethnic media are strongly encouraged.

FIJ also invites investigations of climate change issues in the US and around the world.

FIJ awards grants averaging $5,000 three or four times each year for proposals that break new ground and expose wrongdoing. Grants support journalists' travel, document collection and other reporting expenses. Small stipends may also be available.
