Press Club Media Person of the Year

Honoring Mike Shannon

The Press Club has honored distinguished persons in the local media since 1988 at events that are by turns charming, fun loving, rollicking and poignant. This year will be no exception as Mike Claiborne of KTRS emcees a program that will feature video and audio highlights and Mike Shannon's best friends recalling his finest hours as a Cardinals player and broadcaster.

There will be lots of laughs, but underlying this event is a serious purpose. At a time when budget cuts have taken a toll on higher education, proceeds from the event will support scholarships and internships for collegiate journalists. At a time when the economy has forced layoffs and cutbacks at newspapers, the proceeds will also be used to support enterprise reporting through a fellowship program for professional journalists.
