PRESS CLUB OF METROPOLITAN ST. LOUIS INSTALLS NEW PRESIDENT AND OFFICERS AT ANNUAL MEETING


Club’s Highest Award Presented to Post-Dispatch Reporter
KMOX’s Charlie Brennen Gives Keynote

The Press Club of Metropolitan St. Louis elected Gloria S. Ross its 2011-2013 president and 11 other board members to three-year terms at its 54th annual meeting at the Ritz-Carlton on Thur., Dec 2. Ross is principal of Okara Communications and AfterWords, an obituary-writing and production service.

“I’m proud to be a longtime member of the best Press Club in the nation, and I’m honored to have been asked to lead this organization,” Ross said.

The Press Club’s highest award, the Catfish Award, was presented to Aisha Sultan, who writes the “Dirty Laundry” parenting column for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Lifestyle section.

During the meeting, the President’s “Above and Beyond” Award was presented to Dennis Heinze of AAA Missouri and Tim Puchta of Adam Putcha Winery, for in-kind services. The President’s “Outstanding Journalism Award” went to The St. Louis Jewish Light.

A highlight of the evening for the nearly 100 in attendance was tales of a radio personality from KMOX’s midday host, Charles Brennan. Brennan, who also moderates KETC Channel Nine’s “Donnybrook”, signed copies of his book, “Here’s Where: A Guide to Illustrious St. Louis”.

In addition to Ross, Board members elected were: Claudia Burris, Tom Eschen, Richard Gavatin, Margaret Gillerman, Judy Kaplan, Susan Kerth, Carol Lundgren, Michael Right, Barbara Washington, Patricia Wente and Richard Weiss, the Press Club’s immediate past president.
